Born in Texas to parents of Korean descent she studied at the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York then moved to LA to enjoy, as she says, Mexican food and the climate of the west Cost. Looking at her blog, much more generous than the portfolio, you can trace all her influences: from Daria to Evangelion. Hanna mixes influences of the Canadian/ US indie comic (Thompson, overall) with a palette for skater of San Diego and the affectation of the most sought anime ’s forms. The result is a combination powerful and versatile, suitable for both the pages of The New York Times (always looking for more fresh meat), as the super chic Russian edition of Esquire or a xerox printed fanzine.
What Hanna lacks in originality is compensated for by her cheeky sense of humor and a taste for composition.
Three projects to start with are surely her “Lessons of Adulthood” (self-produced fanzine), and her experiments with lettering.
